Client Responsibility: Please text Earthside Apothecary (Roxanne McKechnie) on 0413712713 as soon as possible after the birth to organise pick up of your placenta. If needing to call Earthside Apothecary, please only do so between the hours of 6am and 10pm. Should Earthside Apothecary be unavailable to answer your call, please leave a voicemail message and you will be contacted as soon as possible. If you are not able to make contact with Earthside Apothecary within 3 days of the birth and the placenta has been appropriately refrigerated, please freeze the placenta (following the instructions provided to you with the placenta transport kit) until pick up. A frozen placenta may take up to an additional 24-48 hours to encapsulate and/or tincture so that it can be thawed safely. It is your responsibility to discuss the release of your placenta with your health care provider and to complete any required paperwork for release prior to pick up by Earthside Apothecary. Please notify your midwife (and doctor if applicable) upon arrival to the hospital and at shift change (if applicable) of your wishes to keep your placenta. Your placenta must not be treated with alcohol, formalin, or any other preservative – such treatments will make the placenta unsuitable for consumption and it is your responsibility to notify Earthside Apothecary if this occurs. It is your responsibility to notify Earthside Apothecary of any infection in yourself or your baby during labour or after birth. Any infection will render your placenta unsuitable for consumption.
It is your responsibility to ensure the placenta is stored correctly after birth to ensure it is suitable for consumption. Within 2 hours of birth the placenta must be refrigerated or placed on ice in the placenta transport kit, delivered to you at 36 weeks’ gestation. It is your responsibility to follow the packaging instructions and ensure your placenta is handled safely and correctly prior to it being picked up by Earthside Apothecary (Roxanne McKechnie). If the placenta is not handled and refrigerated appropriately, your placenta may be unsafe for consumption and it is your responsibility to promptly notify Earthside Apothecary – in such circumstances Earthside Apothecary may cancel the services at its sole discretion. If you do not notify Earthside Apothecary and consume the capsules and/or tincture you acknowledge that you do so at your own risk and you indemnify Earthside Apothecary (Roxanne McKechnie) from and against any and all liability.
Earthside Apothecary (Roxanne McKechnie) prepares placentas in accordance with Australian food safety and handling procedures, bloodborne pathogens universal precautions and the strict standards set by the Association of Placenta Preparation Arts standards [APPA]. Equipment used by Earthside Apothecary will either be single-use or sanitised prior to use. For personal safety reasons, Earthside Apothecary will not provide placenta arts services to anyone who has tested positive to a blood-borne pathogen. It is your responsibility to fully disclose any blood-borne pathogens you have or suspect you may have. You warrant that your placenta does not contain any transmittable diseases and that to the best of your knowledge, your placenta is suitable for consumption.
Methods of Encapsulation: Earthside Apothecary (Roxanne McKechnie) offers clients two methods of encapsulation – the Steamed Method (traditional method) and the Simple Method (raw method). The Steamed Method of encapsulation involves steaming the placenta (with lemon, ginger and chili) to a minimum of 71° Celsius prior to dehydration. This step is intended to kill any potential bacterium that may be present on the placenta at time of preparation, in accordance with Australian food safety standards. The Simple Method omits the steaming step in placenta preparation and instead dehydrates the placenta raw. By choosing the Simple Method (raw method) of encapsulation, you elect that your placenta is not to be steamed and acknowledge that Earthside Apothecary cannot guarantee there will be no harmful bacteria present in the final product.
Cancellation Policy: A non-refundable booking fee of $50 applies to confirm your booking. This is because Earthside Apothecary (Roxanne McKechnie) only takes a limited number of bookings each month to ensure your placenta products can be prepared promptly. The booking fee reserves your allocation in the month of your expected birth, and covers the purchase cost of partial supplies for your services.
Payment of the balance in full is required by the time you reach 36 weeks’ gestation. Following such payment, your transport kit will be delivered to you at your recorded address or as otherwise agreed with Earthside Apothecary (Roxanne McKechnie). If your placenta cannot be released to you (e.g. sent to pathology) or is unsuitable for consumption (e.g. due to infection in you or your baby), a partial refund will be provided to you (the booking fee and an amount equal to any costs or expenses already incurred will not be refunded). You agree to indemnify Earthside Apothecary from and against any and all liability for failure to provide the services due to circumstances that are beyond the reasonable control of Earthside Apothecary (e.g. car accident, placenta deemed unsuitable for consumption due to mishandling or improper storage).
